Why Hire A Credit Repair Company Like Lexington Law Firm?

Credit repair companies in the past have suffered from a reputation of having a lot of con artists in the industry. Many “companies” made promises that they could get accurate credit information deleted and create new credit files for people. This brought significant legislation but the government in an effort to protect consumers and bring consequences to the scammers.

What is impressive is that Lexington Law made it through those times when the Government came down on credit repair scams. If they had participated in any of this activity they would have been shut down.

When you hire a credit repair company, it can be tempting to believe someone who is making unrealistic promises about your credit repair. But you need to remember the old adage, if it is too good to be true it probably is.

Do not hire anyone who is offering or asking you to do the following:

  • Create false documentation
  • Promises you overnight results
  • Offers you a new identity
  • Does not offer a clear cancelation policy
  • Offers you a new social security number
  • Offers you a new credit file
  • Removal of accurate information
  • Pressuring you to pay upfront fees
  • Tells you do not contact the credit reporting bureaus

Many scam companies will offer to sell you a social security number illegally. Stay as far away from this as possible.

Reputation

Lexington Law has the reputation and time in the industry that a consumer can trust to handle something as important as repairing your credit. On average Lexington Law removes 10 items from their customer’s credit reports.

“Statistically, our clients have seen impressive credit report results, with an average of 10.2 items, or 24% of their representing negatives, removed within 4 months.”

**Lexington Law Firm

No law firm can promise a particular result within a certain time frame since every case and credit report is different. However, they clearly have a successful credit repair model in place for their customers. The company boasts over 10,000,000 million items that have been removed from their customer’s credit reports.

If you do not want to go through the tedious and sometimes complicated process of having negative items removed from your account then Lexington Law is a great choice to offer you assistance and you will have an actual law firm representing your interests.

There is nothing worse for a creditor to receive a letter from a law firm questioning them about an account they are reporting incorrectly to the reporting bureaus. It is more about their perceived power in these situations.

How Much Does Lexington Law Cost?

Initially nothing. One of the things I like about Lexington Law is that they offer you a free professional credit consultation. They will be able to evaluate your situation and you will be able to find out if credit repair services are the right fit for you and your particular circumstances.

During your free consultation you will receive:

This is important because you should get a professional consultation from three reputable credit repair firms and do a comparison of their recommendations. Once you have your three consultations, you can so a side by side comparing and make an informed and educated decision when it comes to hiring a credit repair service.

Lexington Law offers three packages to choose from. You may choose any of the packages and upgrade or downgrade at any point in the process. I like this feature because as you are getting your credit repaired you can move to a less expensive program and save money.

Lexington Law offers a variety of service levels to support every budget and need. Their credit repair services levels range from $89.85 for the basic service to $129.95 for their premium service. Each option offers you unique coverage to fix errors on your credit report.

Service Levels At Lexington Law

Lexington Law offers the following service levels that are important for the credit repair process. Personally, I recommend the Premier Plus Package. You do not want to waste time or money going into credit repair halfway. This package has all of the bells and whistles. It is their best package and the highest level of service.

The money you will save on interest will more than cover the nominal monthly fee for the Premier Plus Package.

Once you have gotten the majority of your credit repair accomplished then you can downgrade your package for a lower fee to finish your credit repair and save money that way.

Premier Plus is Lexington Law’s Advanced Package is $129.95 and includes the following services that are important for the credit repair process.

  • Bureau challenges
  • Creditor interventions

How Long Does It Take For Lexington Law To Fix Your Credit?

On average, credit repair can last about 4-6 months. If you have deeper issues with your credit it can take a year or more, but typically credit repair services are not needed for more than a year. While you are having your credit repaired it is important that you are also building strong credit history to help raise your credit score.

According to BestCompany.com, Lexington Law may take a little longer than other companies to accomplish your credit repair goals. Why? The BestCompany.com website claims that Lexington Law does not want to get a reputation for frivolous disputes. This makes sense as I actually had this happen to my husband when I found an inaccurate item on his report.

Regardless, if Lexington Law is taking this precaution I feel, as a credit repair expert, that this is a good move on the company’s part. Going in and slamming the bureaus with tons of letters will only cause issues for everyone down the road.

What Is Your Responsibility

Some of how quickly your credit is repaired depend on you as well. It is a partnership, so providing documentation and information in a timely matter can speed up the process.

If you lack documentation it can take more time to repair your credit. It can still be done but it just means more groundwork will need to be done by Lexington Law.

Make sure you have any documentation ready for your representative before you start the clock ticking and paying for services. Go through your free consultation and before you pay for your first month, you can collect the data you need to speed up the process. While this is certainly not necessary to get started, it will help you to shorten the time it takes to repair your credit.

What Does Lexington Law Remove From Your Credit?

Lexington Law can handle repairing any type of credit account information that is inaccurate.

Negative Items include:

  • Inaccurate information
  • Charge offs
  • Collections
  • Late payments
  • Repossessions
  • Foreclosures
  • Bankruptcies

Can Lexington Law Hurt Your Credit?

By removing inaccurate information you are only helping your credit in the long term. However, there are times that removing negative items can cause your FICO credit score to drop. This is not hurting your credit per se but if you have a negative item removed that had some positive attribute that was feeding into your credit score then you may see it lose a few points.

This does not mean that a credit repair service can hurt your credit. This can happen with any credit repair that you or someone else does on your behalf. Credit repair and restoration is a long game. By removing negative items from your credit report you are in the process of restoring your credit regardless of what your score does.

Does Lexington Law Have a Good Reputation?

Yes! With 1000s of online reviews and over 15 years in the industry, Lexington Law has an excellent reputation in regards to credit repair.

According to BestCompany.com Lexington Law has a 4.0 score and a 9.1 Overall Reputation Score.

Lexington Law’s Legal Issues

More recently, in 2019, the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection (BCFP) filed suit against Lexington Law and CreditRepair.com. Both companies are owned by Progexion. The bottom line is that Lexingtonlaw has been accused of shady marketing practices and apparently has a reputation for this.

In short, they hired a third-party company, who ran ads that offered homes with home loans that would be made available to customers with bad credit. There was never a home for sale or a loan once the consumers had their credit repaired. it was all a ploy to get customers over to Lexington Law and get a commission on their credit repair purchase.

Lexington Law requested that the case be dismissed because they can not be held responsible for third party behavior.

However, class-action lawsuits have been filed in the past that alleges violations of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act for accepting upfront monies from consumers.

If this bothers you as a consumer then you might want to look at another company. There are a few good credit repair companies that do not have this cloud over them. You do have choices.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

The most important factor is that Lexington Law is an actual law firm. This can bring a lot of weight when battling the laws that govern our credit reporting system.

The Good

  • Free Consultation
  • Licensed Attorneys
  • Advanced Credit Repair Services
  • Multiple Person Discounts
  • Experience
  • Online Educational Resources
  • Different Plans for Every Budget with the ability to change plans as needed.

The Bad and The Ugly

  • C’ Rating With BBB
  • Pending Government Lawsuits and other litigation
  • Questionable Marketing Ethics
  • Higher Than Average Costs
  • Slower The Other Credit Repair Services

Advice When Hiring Any Credit Repair Company

The complaints that I see, for the most part, online about Lexington Law Firm is that the customer’s credit score dropped after using their services. It is important that you set your expectations correctly. This means that you need to understand that no credit repair experience will be perfect.

Score Drops

I would be remiss if I did not mention that you should never go into any credit repair situation without the understanding that you should not be so much concerned with your FICO score as you are with making sure the information is accurate.

The reason is, if you remove the information and there were any positive attributes to the account, it may lower your score. This may only be temporary, and there are ways to fix the issue. But all of this takes time.

Accurate Information

The other complaint I have seen is that once an item was removed it came back. This will happen with accurate information. No one can promise to remove accurate information from your credit report. In addition, no one can make any promises as to what information can be removed.

Overall, Lexington Law has a long history of offering credit repair services that are reliable.
